Another cracking few days of training completed 🚣🌊
This time we had the pleasure of @gouldtoby company. Toby rowed Across the Atlantic in 2018 with current crew member Justin Coleman. Toby was the unofficial handyman for his crossing and joined us on the water to share his knowledge, hints and tips for a successful crossing. Thank you Toby!
A thick sea fog kept the temperature down on day one but the sun came out for our second outing. All in all a successful weekend with a couple of dolphin sightings, a friendly seal and a good measure of sea sickness 🐬🤢

As The Met Office issues the UK's first extreme heat warning the crew are getting ready for a weekend of training in The North Sea.
Luckily we've got some man-over-board drills planned which should cool us off pretty quick! 🚣‍♂️🏊‍♂️🌊

There are so many obstacles to navigate during our training rows from Hartlepool Marina. From wind farms to fishing boats. This will be much less of a problem mid-Atlantic but we will still need to keep an eye out for other ships. Thankfully we have a system on board that alerts other ships to our position and triggers an alarm if we are on course to collide with another vessel 🚢
This is another vital piece of equipment on the boat keeping us safe at sea 🚣🌊😀
Can't wait to be back out on The North Sea in a couple of weeks time!

Today we had a visit from @fireprotectiongirl to service our fire safety kit for the crossing 👩‍🚒
Cooking with an open flame on a rocking boat carries an inherent risk and we also have a various electrics on the boat. 🌊🔥🔌
A fire at sea could be disastrous so it's vital that we carry the correct kit and know it's all in good order.

When compared with a 'normal' rowing boat, our boat Trilogy can often feel quite big.
When you think about living on it for 60 days it suddenly feels quite small.
It's all depends on the perspective!

To some people 6 months might feel like quite a long time, but when you've already been preparing for an expedition for 18 months it's suddenly starting to feel like departure is just around the corner 😲🚣‍♂️🌊

Everytime we get together we progress as a team and inch that little bit closer to being ready for The Atlantic 🌊.
Our plan to row through the night was thwarted by the wind so we came in at sunset and went back out at sunrise. The 3.30am start was rewarded by calm seas and a stunning sunrise 🌅☀️😃. We also had a friendly seal following us for a while!
The wind soon picked up and by midday we were rowing at max effort but not moving. We kept this going for 4 hours until our backs had had enough and then turned back 💨
Lots learned.

Weather is shaping up nicely for our training week

Weather is shaping up nicely for our training weekend 🚣‍♂️☀️😀
This weekend we plan to stay out at sea for 48hrs + which will be a big step forward in the crew's training. We hope to venture further away from #hartlepool and maybe even get some fish and chips in #whitby 🍟🐟
Rowing at night is a whole different ball game. We'll also have chance to practice our 2hrs on 2hrs off rowing routine, cooking, sleeping and navigating 🌌🍳🛌
Oh and let's not forget it'll be the first use of the toilet bucket which everyone is particularly looking forward to! 🤦🚽.

Geeky post warning 🤓⚠️
You may remember a while back we showed some pictures of our new rudder and dagger board being built by Tom's dad, Mike? Well the rudder is now complete and ready for sea trials next weekend 🌊🚣‍♂️.
So it's now onto finishing the dagger board. You may be wondering what the go-faster stripe is down the middle 🚤🤷. This is a layer or carbon fibre added into the wood to give extra strength 💪.
The dagger board, or center board as it is sometimes called is a retractable board that is held in a slot in the middle of the boat. It helps to keep the boat stable but more importantly holds the boat on a steady line when the the winds are blowing from the side 💨. These come under huge strain and are a common piece of kit to fail, so the stronger the better.
The whole thing is now being wrapped in fibreglass before being painted. Another piece to the puzzle of getting us across The Atlantic safely 🧩.
